|KZN 24 Jul 2007 – "Engage!" Or how to clutch start a locomotive :)

Honestly... I think I enjoyed last week's better. All the white I was trying to sketch Michael and his paws, and getting it wrong over and over, I was thinking "just how will endeavouring with thes out-of-proportion shapes ever help to improve my drawing skill?" :(
However one thing that DID turn out right was Marmoe's suggestion to expand the render pics before adding the drawing. The results are imaculate!
Now lets' see if I can produce another episode before the end of the week.
It's not as amusing as Michael's expression before, but I'm having an easier time following it now.
I dunno. Maybe I'm more awake.
'sallright. I'm just keen for feedback. If there's a possibility that I've made something that's difficult for the readers to follow then I'll look for ways to improve the way I depict the story.
The story does seem to have begun in medias roos.
I don't speak latin, I'm a 21st century foxaroo! :P
"In medias res" is a literary expression meaning that events are already underway when the audience starts learning about the situation. We're not getting it all from the beginning -- not yet, anyway.
Ah! I like that. Nearly all my stories are written that way so I'm going to have to remember that one. In medias res...
Yes the background is being revealed a little at a time, and in about a month and a half (providing I keep to schedule) there will be an especially revealing episode as one of the other primary characters is introduced.
Since the comic isn't a laugh-per-strip comic (contrary to what some CTC forumites assumed) I have to hold the audience's attention by elements of mystery and a "I-want-to-know-what-happens-next" feeling.
There will be a little bit of humour, occasionally, but I'm hoping to hold on to the audience by their curiosity. That's preferable to filling the comic with nudity and sex.
I'm envisaging 5 panels for the next episode (one being a split of two small panels). Two are rendered, the next two are under construction and the third shouldn't be too difficult. Then comes the drawing.
I'd hoped to have the lot finished tonight, but became caught up in phone calls. I'm still trying to finish so that I complete a whole episode this week, and can start another on the weekend.
