Does anybody know the scientific latin for Bowman's Wolf? [Nov. 3rd, 2008|11:41 am]
Stephan
I could post this on the Talk About Comics forum, but I'd much rather read opinions that make sense.

I always enjoyed the pseudo-latin for the Roadrunner and Coyote: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wile_E._Coyote_and_Road_Runner (Scroll down a bit)

The Simpsons pulled a similar joke in an episode with Homer Chasing Bart.

I was thinking that Florence chasing Helix would be an amusing piece. Better yet, if someone had thought of this during the Mzzkitti chase scene.

(Y'see with me having quit the CTC you've lost a lot of imagination :P )

Coming up with scientific latin for my own characters would be fun, both genuine and pseudo-latin. I just have no idea how scientific latin is composed for hybrids.

The Latin name for the red wolf (the basis for the Bowman's Wolf) is Canis lupus rufis. I guess for the Bowman's Wolf, it would be either that with sapiens added on or just Canis lupus sapiens.

I seem to recall a discussion about this on the old Freefall forum back in the day.

Yes that has me baffled too, but I *LOVE* all the others! LOL

Mzzkitti would be interesting, as she's not an Earth feline. Plus at one point I recall Bill saying that he'd considered including some lemur traits in her species.

Zigzag would be another... XD

Archae too.

For Sebastian I've never really thought about what type of wallaby his father was, nor the desirable species of chameleon.

Now Michael on the other hand is a cross between a Vulpes Vulpes and a Macropus Giganteus (yes, that's real), so how is that combination written down?

Archae would probably be Archaeopteryx sapeins. Mzzkitti would probably be Felis sapiens moggus or something similar. Don't know about Zig, though.

Possibilities for Zig:
Mephitidae felis stripicus estros hypersii
Blackrabbitus masterfulis

I forgot an obvious one for my list - Unicorn!

Equus monoceros (Equus for horse and monocerous from the Latin name for the narwhal).

That works well.

Another possibility is

Equus Rhinocerotidae, after all some people say that a unicorn is a cross between a horse and a rhino (I even read somewhere that unicorn is actually the bible term for rhinocerious).

callipygia, callipygy
the state of having a well-shaped rear-end. Cf. steatopygia. — callipygian, callipygous. adj. From Greek kalli- (nice) pyge- (posteriors)

FWIW, the Warners from "Animaniacs" were identified by senior producer Tom Ruegger as "Cartoonus characteris."
