I shouldn't mention this but... [Sep. 29th, 2008|01:20 pm]

(Will be http://freefall.purrsia.com/ff1700/fc01635.htm after 6th October)

"Even cartoonists get dragged away from their comfortable abodes sometimes. On vacation for a week. Freefall will continue on Monday, October 6"

Oh... Isn't that what Pony wanted to do with the CTC but certain individuals wouldn't let him for fear that the comic would *die* if it went on hiatus?

Must... resist... temptation to post this fact on the net... !!!

Too late :P

There's a long difference between telling people you're on vacation for a week, and telling people you're shuttering the shop indefinitely.

If by indefinitely you're talking about a hiatus without a forseeable end (Eg: "Beth's Lonliness") Pony wasn't indicating that. He merely needed time to relocate home without the complication of managing the CTC updates.

Pony indicated it would be on the order of months. The CTC would not have been the first comic to never recover. I still was content to risk this loss.

However, there's another thing to consider. Unlike Freefall the CTC is not a one-man-show. There is a larger pool of artists, who's creative outlet would have been stunted. In addition the CTC lives not of a long established script, but of improvisation and rapid responses to currents on the forum. That artery would have been disrupted and I am not really sure, whether this could be jump started once its cut off.

Finally I think Pony did not communicate well; not really something to wonder about, given the stress he was/is going through. There was no prior warning, just a sudden one-unicorn-decision "as of now the CTC is delayed indefinitely". I don't blame Pony for this, but it did not help matters either.

It's funny you should say this because I was thinking about it a great deal yesterday. Of late there's not been a lot of contribution from the large pool of artists. It's more like a small pool of artists. A very small pool of artists.

I can think of another abrupt decision that hit me out of the blue, but getting myself back on topic, I think Pony has every right to call a hiatus when he needs to. Particularly where his health is concerned.

I agree and you may have seen on the forum that I was one of the first to say so.

After the 'yena's last tirade I removed the CTC forum from my bookmarks.

Previously my absence was a consequence of the death of my enthusiasm, but after my final post (and in all liklihood it will *BE* my final post) I don't even glance at the forum any more. In the last six months or so I've probably only looked there about 4 or 5 times anyway, and it's only when someone E-mails me about events there that I take any interest.

I hope Pony will be successful in his new career and that he will at least make an effort to watch his health, but I think it best for myself that I detach entirely from the CTC and forget everything.

Thanks for that, Freefall is my first port of call when the PC gets turned on and considering the forums are down again, I would have probably panicked somewhat at the lack of updates!

Mark has posted his message under the current strip.

In a way it's helpful for me that the comic has gone on hiatus for a few days. Work is extremely busy at the moment and I'm having difficulty following Freefall's rather complex storyline.

Haven't I seen you on the alternative Freefall forum on TalkAboutComics?

I can relate to the "port of call". :D
