Modem is fried [Dec. 22nd, 2007|09:05 am]
Stephan
Hi everyone,

I'm using my work computer.

My modem failed to work yesterday evening. I can't say it was entirely a surprise, as the device has been increasingly erratic over the past few months (probably why I was unable to upload the scene of the downpour in my suburb last weekend).

I have the new modem already. It's just a matter of setting it up, and as most of you would be aware by now, I'm not very good at these things.

Till then... Ciao!

I know the pain. I only hope my connectivity is better after I move. Last time I moved, something got knocked out of place in the process.

Just an advice.

Do you have a plug strip with surge protector? They're really not that expensive, and they can keep the odd utility surge (kamikaze squirrel in the substation) from toasting your hardware. You probably don't need a full-blow Uninterruptible Power Supply, but a surge protector is a useful investment.

A 50-dollar component will protect a 25-cent fuse by blowing first.

(I first read that as "Modem is Fred". Strange, I know)

I hope you get things all ironed out, there.
Otherwise we might have to send help...
