Fog... [Oct. 27th, 2007|09:39 am]
Stephan
This morning your insomniac foxaroo awoke at 4:30am and tried very hard to sleep but found himself wide awake once again. Rather than take up Pony's naughty habbit of pre 6am net-surfing I went to the window to make the most of the early morning cool.

There was nothing visible outside. My building may as well have been teleported to an alien world, for in all directions there was nothing to be seen but a white void. Sydney was somewhere beneath a thick white haze.

In the past I've viewed scenes that would have made good photography when fog abounds, and having only recently bought a camera able to do them justice I was eager to make some memories.

Unfortunately the fog dispersed far too evenly. Instead of lingering in patches as has previously been the case, it faded consistently throughout the city until nothing remained. What a dissapointment.

Just one mroe reason I prefer the colder months.

Dammit, I load a new tab and Firefox crashes on me and it loses my comment! (strictly speaking, it was a media player plugin that crashed FF, but that's splitting hairs)

Sounds like that would have been a lovely sight to see as the fog dispersed, too bad it wasn't photogenic enough.

A couple years ago I had an opportunity to take an almost beautiful picture and I didn't have a camera handy!

The main campus of the university I attend has a partially enclosed area with a circular hole through the floor above that is open to the sky above, with a tree beneath in a round bed.
On that day, there was just enough fog to make it look almost beautiful, but I didn't have a camera with me!
(I say almost beautiful due to the amount of exposed cement and concrete, if it was covered with, say, wood or plastic or something like that it would look much better)

That would have been one of the best pictures I'd have ever taken.
(wait, was that a "the one that got away" story?)

It's my favourite fox / pinemartin hybrid!

Yes, sounds like a "the one that got away" story.

Some day we'll all have mobile phones with 7.1 pxl resolution.

The college I attended in Newcastle had a courtyard that sounds a little like what you've described, except that it was squre. It was also pidgeon infested, alas. I'm not sure how much of the college was demolished following the 1989 Newcastle earthquake.

The fox I experienced yesterday was the most evenly spread I've ever seen, which unfortunately wasn't a useful subject to photograph. The buildings started to emerge as it thinned, but none of that lovely whisp effect that makes for good photography. [Sigh]

Hmm, I'm a favourite?
I didn't know that! :)

And not too long after that, maybe we'll have computers with holographic displays, with the package being small enough to clip on your belt...

Ah well, one can always dream...
(and no, I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I don't like being sarcastic. I prefer to be wishful, like I am now)

The main campus of the university I attend (I should probably start saying 'my university', but I'm a little divided about that) is rather sprawling, and it's currently being extended still further.

I just wish less cement was visible...

'Sokay! I didn't regard it as sarcasm, you're talking to ANOTHER dreamer right here.

I dream of teleporters and time travel machines, but that's A LOT further off.

[voice type="Simba"]Right, I'm your only nephew.[/voice]

Now, does that make it more or less of a favourite? ;)

I dunno, but one of the things I've been thinking about is a cross between Star Trek's teleporter and holodeck.
Kind of a virtual world that you can change as easily as the holodeck's world can be changed, but while not taking up as much room as that.

Might make creating adventure games a little easier, but otherwise it would be almost solely for entertainment purposes.

Ah, how one can dream!

Speaking of which, if I'm to tonight, I really should start my homework that's due in the morning...
*groans*
Boy am I tired.

A favourite, although I'm worried that "My favourite martin" has an awfully familiar ring. ;)

In the Star Trek : Voyager series they encountered a few alien races who had developed a technique they called "Particle synthesis" which sounds very similar.

(I missed seeing the last two seasons of Voyager)

Of course you then have the Matrix style technology which achieves the same effect by manipulating the neurons. That takes up even less room again.

Sorry for the late reply, but I've been rather busy...

While I understand that the Matrix's style of technology would probably be easiest to create, I still prefer something like what I posted above (i.e., a cross between Star Trek's teleporter and holodeck).

The neural port really doesn't seem very romantic ("Here, honey, let's plug in and go to our happy place!"), whereas the "holo-porter" seems a little more suited for a romantic or business event.

Aarrg! Typos!

"squre" was meant to be "square" and "fox" was meant to be "fog" !

Yes, that's a real headache. I can understand them not wanting people to re-word things that have been posted several days or weeks earlier, but what's the harm in letting someone edit a post that has only just been submitted?
